What is eGFR?

eGFR (estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate) is the most important measure of kidney function. It tells us how well your kidneys are filtering waste from your blood. The higher your eGFR, the better your kidney function.

Your kidneys contain millions of tiny filters called glomeruli. These filters remove waste and excess fluid from your blood. The eGFR measures how much blood these filters can clean in one minute, adjusted for your body size.

The calculation uses your age, gender, race, and serum creatinine level to estimate your kidney function. While this provides a good estimate, it's not a substitute for professional medical evaluation.
